Does NSFAS Fund Part-Time Studies For 2024
One might be interested in knowing if NSFAS funds part-time studies. We have the solution for you. Bursaries are available from NSFAS for South African students studying at public universities and TVET colleges.
NSFAS does not support part-time students or students attending private institutions. The financial aid scheme also does not support anyone taking short courses, even if they are at a university. Unisa students, on the other hand, are supported by NSFAS. Unisa is taking a different approach, with students participating in distance learning. This means that the types of allowances available to students differ.
Bursaries are available from NSFAS for South African students studying at public universities and TVET colleges. NSFAS has you covered with registration, tuition, and allowance funding.
If you plan on studying at a University or TVET College and have passed Grades 9 to 12, you tick some of the boxes to be funded by NSFAS. The other requirements are as follows:
- You’re a South African citizen
- If you’re a SASSA grant recipient, you qualify for funding
- You have a combined household income of not more than R350 000 per year
- Person with disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per year
Once approved for NSFAS funding, the funding covers you until you finish your qualification. This does however depend on whether you continue to meet the academic criteria. You must focus on studying and passing your modules to secure your continued funding.
