
Student Nurse Training Programme Applications for 2025 Intake
Department of Health – North West College of Nursing
The Department of Health invites qualified and passionate individuals to apply for the 2025 Student Nurse Training Programme at the North West College of Nursing. This comprehensive training programme offers multiple levels of qualification aimed at preparing nurses for various levels of practice. Applications are now open, and only online submissions will be accepted.
1. Programme: Advanced Diploma in Midwifery (NQF Level 7)
Duration: 1 Year
Total Credits: 120
SANC Regulation: R.1497 (SAQA ID No: 109527)
This programme is for General Nurses residing in the North West Province who wish to further their studies in midwifery. Successful candidates will be placed at either the Mafikeng or Klerksdorp campuses of the North West College of Nursing.
Minimum Requirements:
- Applicants must be registered nurses with a valid South African Nursing Council (SANC) number.
- A Senior Certificate (Standard 10) or National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 2 years of General Nurse experience.
- A Diploma or Degree in Nursing (NQF Level 6) as well as a registration certificate for the Diploma or Degree.
Required Documents:
- Copy of South African ID.
- Copy of Senior Certificate or NSC.
- Proof of registration with SANC as a General Nurse.
- Proof of employment in the Department of Health North West.
- Confirmation of current and previous work experience from the employer.
2. Programme: Diploma in Nursing (NQF Level 6)
Duration: 3 Years
Total Credits: 360
SANC Regulation: R.171 (SAQA ID No: 118565)
Applicants who aspire to become professional nurses can apply for the three-year Diploma in Nursing, which will train students in all necessary aspects of nursing care. Graduates of this programme will be qualified for registration as professional nurses.
Minimum Requirements:
- Senior Certificate or NSC with subjects including English, Life Sciences, Mathematics, and other approved subjects.
- A minimum APS score of 20 points.

- Copy of Senior Certificate or NSC.
- Proof of APS score.
3. Programme: Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing (NQF Level 5)
Duration: 1 Year
Total Credits: 120
SANC Regulation: R.169 (SAQA ID No: 119197)
This one-year programme trains individuals to become Auxiliary Nurses, focusing on basic nursing care under the supervision of professional nurses.
Minimum Requirements:
- Senior Certificate or NSC with English, Life Sciences, and two other subjects.
- Minimum APS score of 18 points.
Required Documents:
- Copy of South African ID.
- Copy of Senior Certificate or NSC.
- Proof of APS score.
