
Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) 2025 Second Semester Applications
If you would like to study at university this year, Mangosuthu University of Technology is open now for applications to start studying in the second semester. There is a range of 7 different courses available.
Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) is a public university of technology located in Umlazi, just south of Durban, KwaZulu‑Natal. It was established in 1979 as Mangosuthu Technikon by Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and upgraded to university status in 2007.
Campus & Students:
The varsity is home to between 13,000 and 14,500 students each year. The varsity is very well supplied with accommodation, with 90 % living on campus or in one of 43 outsourced residences, including dedicated accommodation for international learners.
Academic Structure:
MUT is organised into three faculties:
- Engineering
- Management Sciences
- Natural & Applied Sciences (including Agriculture, Environmental Health, ICT, Nature Conservation, etc.).
It offers certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas, and master’s qualifications.
Designed to address historical inequality, MUT combines strong technical education with community engagement. It emphasises industry-focused learning, on‑campus living, gender parity, and growing research impact, particularly under new leadership committed to Vision 2030.
Open For Second Semester Applications:
- For the second semester of this year, Mangosuthu University of Technology is open for applications to start studying in 7 different programmes, in two of their faculties.
- Students need to have either a grade 12 senior certificate or NCV qualifications. Courses are available in the Engineering Faculty and the Applied Health Sciences faculty. Closing date is the 31st July 2025, but places are limited.

- Diploma in Chemical Engineering
- Diploma in Civil Engineering
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Diploma in Surveying
Requirements:
Minimum requirements include:
- National Senior Certificate / Senior Certificate
- English Home Language / First Additional Language 4 (50% and above)
- Mathematics / Technical Mathematics 4 (50% and above)
- Physical Science / Technical Science 4 (50% and above)
PS: Additional subject only for Diploma in Mechanical Engineering: Engineering Graphic and Design (EGD) 4 (50% and above)
TVET / FET
Alternatively, TVET / NCV results are also considered- see relevant CAO section
Foreign qualifications
- Relevant Cambridge / GCE / IGCSE / HIGCSE results applicable for international applicants – see relevant CAO section.
