
Ivanplats 2026 South Africa Bursary – Now Open for Applications
Ivanplats (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of the Canadian mining company Ivanhoe Mines, is inviting applications for its 2026 bursary programme. This opportunity is aimed at students from communities surrounding the Ivanplats Platreef Mine in Limpopo who wish to pursue studies in key mining-related and technical fields.
Ivanhoe Mines is internationally recognised for its large-scale mineral discoveries and innovative mining methods. The Platreef Project, located near Mokopane, is one of the most significant palladium-rhodium-platinum-nickel-copper-gold deposits in the world. Ivanplats is committed to developing the “mine of the future” using cutting-edge underground mining technology and creating opportunities for local talent to thrive in the mining industry.
Fields of Study Covered
Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate qualifications in the following fields:
- Engineering
- Environmental Studies
- Geology
- Mine Survey
- Mining
Applicants should be passionate, committed, and driven to contribute to the mining industry and its related sectors.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be a South African citizen
- Reside in local communities surrounding the Ivanplats Platreef Mine in Limpopo province
- Be a Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA)
- Have completed Matric
- Be registered or accepted to study towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the listed fields
- Be enrolled at a recognised South African university
- Pass the required medical fitness examination
- Be willing to work both underground and on the surface for mining-related qualifications
Bursary Benefits and Duration:
- The bursary will cover funding for up to four years, enabling recipients to complete their undergraduate studies. Successful candidates will also gain exposure to the mining environment and may have opportunities for workplace experience.
