Nedbank 2026 South Africa Bursary – Now Open for Applications

Nedbank invites applications for its External Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year. This bursary aims to support academically deserving students who demonstrate financial need, focusing on developing scarce skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and the Green Economy. Nedbank’s bursary programme is part of its commitment to nurturing future leaders who will contribute to South Africa’s sustainable growth and innovation.

Fields of Study Covered

Nedbank bursaries are awarded to students studying towards their first undergraduate or Honours degree/diploma in fields critical to South Africa’s future economic growth, including:

  • Science
  • Technology
  • Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Green Economy-related disciplines

The Green Economy fields focus on promoting social equity and environmental sustainability through studies that address reducing carbon emissions, pollution control, resource efficiency, and the enhancement of natural capital.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for the Nedbank bursary, applicants must meet the following:

  • South African citizen
  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Planning to study or already studying full-time towards a first undergraduate or Honours qualification in STEM or Green Economy fields in 2026
  • Accepted or registered at an accredited South African public university or a university of technology
  • Strong academic record, with a minimum overall average of 65% in the 2025 academic year
  • Must have passed Mathematics in Matric (Mathematics Literacy is not accepted)
  • Must demonstrate financial need, assessed through household income
  • Parental or guardian consent is required for applicants under 18

 

Supporting Documents Required (certified copies)

  • South African ID document or card
  • Grade 11 final results and Matric mid-year results (if currently in Matric)
  • Matric certificate and latest university mid-year results (if in 1st year)
  • Latest tertiary results and mid-year results (if in 2nd or 3rd year)
  • Proof of admission or registration at a public university or a university of technology
  • Completed Nedbank Financial Checks Affidavit signed by applicant and parent/guardian
  • Bank statements for the last three months

How to Apply:

Selection Process

All applications will be rigorously screened to ensure compliance with the bursary criteria. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to:

  • Attend a virtual interview
  • Complete psychometric assessments and other evaluations

The Nedbank Educational Trust reviews all shortlisted applications and selects recipients at its discretion. Applicants will be notified of their application status once the process is complete.

Additional Documentation for Shortlisted Candidates

Parents, guardians, and all income earners in the applicant’s household must provide:

  • Written consent for verification of income by third parties
  • Completed income and expenditure statements
  • Certified copies of ID documents for all household income earners
  • Proof of income, including payslips, employment letters, pension slips, or official bank statements (not older than 3 months)
  • Recent bank statements for the past three months

Closing Date:

The deadline to apply is 31 August 2025. Late applications will not be accepted. Early submission is strongly advised to ensure full consideration.
