Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Liberty Actuarial Bursary 2026, applicants must:
- Be South African citizens by birth or descent
- Be full-time Actuarial Science students from second year onwards
- Maintain excellent academic performance in all first-year modules
- Achieve an overall average above 60% and 65% or more for mathematical and actuarial modules
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and active participation in extracurricular activities (such as sports, debating, chess clubs, or olympiads)
Purpose of the Bursary
The bursary is designed to develop highly skilled actuarial professionals who can apply probability, investment theory, and statistical tools to solve commercial challenges. Students will gain both academic and practical exposure to the actuarial field.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7) in Mathematical Sciences
- Actuarial Science undergraduate qualification
Key Outputs and Responsibilities
As part of Liberty’s development programme, bursary recipients will be expected to:
- Conduct research and data analysis using actuarial methodologies
- Provide specialist advice and support in actuarial projects
- Perform modelling and statistical analysis
- Gain exposure to insurance knowledge (such as reserving, IFRS reporting, product pricing)
- Uphold customer service and Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles
- Stay updated with the latest actuarial tools, regulations, and techniques
