Minimum Admission Requirements for a Bachelor’s Degree:
Before applying, you must ensure you:
- Have a UMALUSI certified NSC or IEB qualification
- Achieved 30% or more for a South African Language of Learning and Teaching (English or Afrikaans)
- Achieved an achievement rating of 4 (50–59%) in four 20-credit subjects

- Meet the most basic academic requirements for a bachelor’s degree; and
- Meet the minimum requirements and selection criteria for the programme(s) you wish to apply to.

- Important note: We receive thousands of applications every year, but space is limited. Even if you meet all the admission requirements we may not be able to accommodate you.
How to Calculate Your NSC Average:
Use this formula: (Best result in English or Afrikaans + 5 best results in 20-credit subjects) ÷ 6 = NSC average
(Exclude Life Orientation and non-UMALUSI subjects)
Make sure you submit your application before the closing dates.
- Undergraduate applications and residences close on 31 July.
- Diploma in Public Accountability applications closes on 15 December.
- Financial assistance applications at SU close on 30 September.
NSFAS applicants: Visit the NSFAS website for their opening and closing dates.
How to Apply Online:
- Visit www.maties.com and click “Apply”
- Create your online profile and upload all required documents
- Choose up to three programmes across faculties
➤ Tip: Select at least one programme without extensive selection to improve your chances

Required for:
- Faculty of Law applicants
- School of Tomorrow applicants
- Programmes requiring Mathematics NBT

Receiving and Accepting an Offer
- You may receive multiple offers, but only one can be active at a time
- Conditional offers (based on Grade 11) will become final after NSC results
- Accept your offer and upload the signed Student Contract to secure your place
