Applications are officially open for the 2026 intake at the Western Cape Government College of Emergency Care. The college has been training emergency care professionals since 1980 and remains one of the leading institutions for emergency medical education in the Western Cape.
Available Emergency Medical Care Programmes
- The college is currently offering the following undergraduate programmes:
Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care
- The Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care is a one-year full-time programme designed to equip students with theoretical knowledge and practical emergency care skills needed in the healthcare sector.
Applicants must have:
- English Level 3
- Mathematics Level 3 OR Mathematical Literacy Level 5
- Life Sciences Level 3 OR Physical Sciences Level 3
- One Additional Subject Level 3
- Additional Language Level 3
Note:
- Life orientation is excluded from the additional subjects requirement.
Diploma in Emergency Medical Care
The Diploma in Emergency Medical Care is a three-year full-time programme focused on advanced life support, rescue operations, and professional pre-hospital emergency medical care.
This qualification prepares students to work within the Paramedic scope of practice in emergency rescue environments.
Applicants must have:
- English Level 3
- Mathematics Level 3 OR Mathematical Literacy Level 6
- Life Sciences Level 3
- Physical Sciences Level 3
- One Additional Subject Level 3
- Additional Language Level 3
Note:
- Life Orientation is excluded from the additional subjects requirement.
