Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) 2024 Bursary
The DWS aim to ensure that South Africans have access to clean water and sanitation services, as well as water resources management to ensure sustainable economic and social development in the country.
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has established a Learning Academy, whose aim is to help students complete their tertiary studies within the water and sanitation field, which is a scarce skills sector in the country.
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2024 academic year.
Bursaries will be allocated on the basis of a balanced consideration of the following factors:
- Academic performance
- Race and gender
- Financial need
- Need of DWS in reference to the specific qualifications
Successful applicants to the bursary scheme receive the following support:
- Full tertiary registration and tuition costs
- Residence and meal fees
- Book allowance
- An annual personal allowance
Obligations:
DWS will require bursars who obtain their qualifications to join Water Learning Academy on a fixed-term contract for a period of a maximum of three (3) years.
Currently, bursaries for full-time pre and post-graduate studies are granted on an annual basis to learners at the following South African universities:

(Insert the words “DWS Bursary Application 2024” in the email subject line).
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation:
- ID document (certified copy)
- Grade 11 final results AND Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copies)
- Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
- First-time/ new students: proof of application/ provisional acceptance letter/ firm offer from university (on institute letterhead)
- Honours students in the first year: an academic record of undergraduate and proof of acceptance (on institute letterhead)
- Parents/guardians’ proof of income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ SASSA grant letter)
