The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) is committed to nurturing the future leaders of our nation by offering bursaries and scholarships to deserving students. We believe that education is the key to unlocking our country’s potential, and we’re dedicated to supporting students on their academic journey. Importantly, SANRAL does NOT charge any fee for its bursary and scholarship applications.

SANRAL, a state-owned company, is responsible for the management, maintenance, and development of South Africa’s national road network. Our bursary programme is designed to support studies in various fields critical to our operations, extending beyond engineering.
Bursary Programme Details

- Matriculants aspiring to pursue tertiary studies
- Current students already enrolled at a tertiary institution

- Civil Engineering
- Finance

- Supply Chain & Procurement
Bursary Eligibility Criteria
- For University Students: A minimum overall average of 60%
- For Matriculants: A minimum overall average of 70%
- Additional Requirements:
- South African citizens under the age of 35
- Enrollment at an approved South African tertiary institution (excludes privately-owned universities)
- Full-time study commitment (not part-time or distance learning)
- Completion of a comprehensive application form with all necessary supporting documents
Application Requirements
- Letter of Motivation: A one-page document detailing why you deserve a SANRAL bursary
- Certified Document Copies:
- High school applicants: Term 1 and 2 results
- Tertiary level applicants: Full academic record
- Proof of tertiary registration
- Your ID or birth certificate
- ID documents of parents/legal guardians
- Proof of Residence: Water and electricity bill in the name of parents/legal guardians
- Proof of Income: Not older than 3 months
- Additional Documents:
- Death certificate of parent(s) or social services letter (if applicable)
- Proof of sibling registration at a tertiary institution (if applicable)
- Court decree for fostering a child (if applicable)
- Marriage certificate of applicant’s parents (if married)
Financial Assistance Details
- Means Test: Determines the level of financial assistance SANRAL can provide
- Full Bursary: Covers registration, tuition, accommodation, study material, equipment, and food
- Partial Bursary: Covers registration, tuition, accommodation, and access to wellness programmes

Important Information
- Selection Process: Based on academic merit, financial need, and alignment with SANRAL’s Employment Equity (EE) Transformation Policy objectives
- Application Review: Misrepresentation of information can lead to cancellation of the bursary
- Notification: Successful candidates will be contacted within three months of the application closing date. If you do not receive any communication by 31 December, consider your application unsuccessful.
