On January 1, 2004, the University of KwaZulu-Natal was formed by the merger of the University of Durban-Westville and the University of Natal. The new university combines the rich histories of the two previous universities. The university is organised into four Colleges, each of which has 19 Schools and is led by a Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Head of College.

All applications to UKZN are done online. Manual applications are not accepted except for campus changes and some postgraduate programs. Application inquiries can be directed to enquiries@ukzn.ac.za.
Application Deadlines for 2024 and 2025
- 2024 Application Deadline for Medicine: 30 June 2024
- 2025 Application Deadlines: To be announced, typically similar to previous years.

- For all professional degrees, you cannot start a new degree in the second semester.
