Zutari 2024 Bursary Scheme
Would you like to study or are you currently studying, towards a degree in engineering? Are you a South African citizen?
If so, then we may be able to help pay for your studies. Through our bursary scheme, we financially support university students so they can obtain degrees in engineering.
Bursary eligibility criteria:
Qualification disciplines: BSc or BEng in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, Mechatronics, Industrial, and Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
You can apply for a bursary:
- if you’re a South African citizen
- if you meet the minimum academic requirements:
- Grade 12 – At least a 7 symbol in mathematics and science and an overall average of at least 75%
- First-year – An overall average of at least 70%
- Second year – An overall average of at least 65%
- Third year – An overall average of at least 60%
Suppose you are a prospective engineer intending to study or currently studying towards one of the above and you are passionate about making a real impact in Africa. In that case, Zutari is the place for you!
Bursary application process:
You can apply for a bursary online in September. You’ll have to attach the following documents to your online application:
- a copy of your CV in Word format or PDF
- a certified copy of your South African ID or Smart ID card
- a copy of your academic records
- proof that you’ve been accepted by, or that you’re registered at, a university recognised or accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
Our emerging talent team will review your application. If you meet all our requirements, they’ll shortlist your application, and ask you to come and attend a panel interview at one of our offices. Final bursary awards are based on your financial need, academic performance, field of study and interview score.
Bursary review process and conditions:
If you meet all our requirements, we’ll award you a bursary. We’ll do so on set conditions, however.
- We’ll review your academic performance twice a year (in June and in November, as soon as you can send us your exam results). If your academic results no longer meet our minimum requirements, we’ll suspend the bursary until your results improve. But if your results still meet our requirements, we’ll keep paying towards your studies, although we won’t pay more than R120 000 per year.
- If you become one of our bursary holders, we’ll ask that you come and work for us during the university’s breaks. We’ll let you work in different units so you are introduced to different areas relating to your field of study. And we’ll give you access to our graduate and bursar network for additional support.
- Once you’ve completed your studies, you’ll take part in our graduate recruitment process so we can place you in a graduate role. Once you’ve been placed, you’ll have to work back one year for every year of your studies we provided funding for.
Closing date: 30 September 2023
