The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has opened applications for Administrative Examination Assistants (Temporary Positions) for the 2026 examination marking sessions.
This opportunity is designed for tertiary students in KwaZulu-Natal who are looking for paid short-term work, practical administrative experience, and exposure to the provincial education system during exam marking periods.
Examination assistants play an important role in ensuring that examination scripts are handled correctly and that marking centres operate efficiently during the provincial and national examination cycles.
Marking Sessions Available (Choose ONE)
Applicants must apply for only one marking session per application. Submitting multiple sessions on one application will make the application invalid.
June 2026 Senior Certificate Examination (SCE)
Available in the following districts:
- Umlazi
- Pinetown
October / November 2026 National Senior Certificate (NSC)
Available across all 12 districts in KwaZulu-Natal
Marking Period: 25 November – 15 December 2026
Important:
- Successful applicants will only be appointed for one marking session. If you are appointed for the June session, you will not be considered for the November session.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative Examination Assistants help support operations inside marking centres. Duties may include:
- Sorting and packing examination scripts
- Moving scripts between secure control points
- Assisting with script control procedures
- Supporting administrative managers at marking centres
- Performing general administrative duties as assigned
Because examination papers are confidential national documents, assistants must demonstrate accuracy, reliability, and strong attention to detail.
Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Currently registered at a tertiary institution
- Reside within the area of the selected marking venue
- Have their own transport and accommodation
- Submit a completed Z83 application form
- Apply for only one marking session per application
Applications will not be considered from:
- Individuals currently working as Educator Assistants or Teacher Assistants
- Applicants who are not registered students

- Detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Certified copy of Matric certificate
- Original written confirmation of tertiary registration
