The City of Mbombela is the capital of South Africa’s Mpumalanga province. Formerly known as Nelspruit, its name was officially changed to Mbombela in 2009. The city is the administrative and business centre of the Lowveld region. Mbombela is located in eastern South Africa, on the banks of the Crocodile River. It is situated within the Ehlanzeni District Municipality.

This exciting 12-month learnership provides comprehensive training aligned with the National Road Traffic Act, Act 93 of 1996, equipping successful candidates with the knowledge and practical skills needed to serve as qualified Traffic Officers.

The programme supports the municipality’s goals of skills development, youth empowerment, and public safety, while providing learners with professional exposure and hands-on experience in traffic law enforcement.

 

Requirements and Competencies:

To qualify, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • A Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Must be younger than 35 years of age.
  • No criminal record or pending cases.
  • Must be physically fit and willing to undergo physical training.
  • Must be a South African citizen and a permanent resident of the City of Mbombela.
  • Applicants must provide Proof of Residence and indicate their Ward Number on the application form.

Key Responsibilities:

During the 12-month training period, successful candidates will:

  • Receive structured learning and practical exposure in traffic law enforcement
  • Participate in road safety education initiatives
  • Learn how to apply and enforce the National Road Traffic Act
  • Engage in community safety programmes and municipal outreach activities

This structured training will help participants develop the necessary discipline, technical knowledge, and professional ethics expected of traffic officers.

  • Certified copies of all qualifications and certificates
  • Proof of Residence (not older than 3 months)
