Actuarial Science has a fundamental impact on the world. It enables people to prepare and plan better, particularly when it comes to financial decision-making.
Part of our commitment to our trade is recognising that for one to be a master in their trade, support is a key ingredient. That’s why we’re offering financial and career support to future actuaries through our bursary programme.

Undergraduate requirements:
Current, full-time Actuarial Science students (SA citizens) who are in their first, second or third year of studies, with a demonstrated academic ability and a willingness to succeed.
- Academic results with: Full academic transcripts Proof of registration and/or Fee Statement Copy of matric certificate
- Copy of ID
- Comprehensive CV focusing on Academics, Extra-mural activities and Leadership skills
- A motivation letter, written in your own words, that answer the following questions: Describe what an actuary does? Why do you want to study actuarial science? Why do you believe you have what it takes to become an actuary? Why should Sanlam choose you to be a bursary holder? If you are not successful at becoming an actuary, what other career paths are you considering?
Matric student requirements
If you’re great at maths, enjoy solving complex problems, and can remain disciplined through years of studying and training, then you are who we’re looking for. Final grade 12 results may be used as determining factor.

- Academic result with: Final Grade 11 results Grade 12 mid-year results NBT results
- An above 90% score in Mathematics and an overall A aggregate
- Comprehensive CV focussing on academics, extra-mural activities and leadership skills
- A motivation letter, written in your own words, that answer the following questions: Describe what an actuary does? Why do you want to study actuarial science? Why do you believe you have what it takes to become an actuary? Why should Sanlam choose you to be a bursary holder? If you are not successful at becoming an actuary, what other career paths are you considering?
Note: You can apply from the 1st of February to the 30th of June every year
